Category: Teldat Router Management, Teldat Trap Notifications

Description: Defines Teldat router PIM (Protocol Independent Multicast) event trap notifications.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TELDAT-TRAP-PIM-MIB?

TELDAT-TRAP-PIM-MIB is a Teldat router module that defines SNMP trap notifications generated by the device's PIM (Protocol Independent Multicast) event subsystem, rather than a table of polled data. Its data category is exclusively fault/event notification: each trap carries fields such as the interface name, message type, and source/destination or neighbor addresses associated with a PIM protocol event. This is used to monitor the software/protocol status of IP multicast routing in near real time, since traps for lost or unexpected PIM neighbors, or rendezvous-point (RP) related events, reveal multicast forwarding faults such as flapping adjacencies or misconfigured RP mappings as they happen rather than requiring polling. It builds on the standard PIM protocol semantics (e.g., RFC 4601 PIM-SM) for its event vocabulary, layered with Teldat-specific trap definitions. It is deployed on Teldat routers running IP multicast in enterprise or carrier networks. Engineers can download the TELDAT-TRAP-PIM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TELDAT-TRAP-PIM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Teldat routers

Monitoring Examples

Traps such as pim4MessageType, pim4Source-address, and pim4Destination-address, along with pim5Non-neighbour-address, are emitted by pimNotifications when the PIM adjacency state changes unexpectedly. A monitoring station capturing a spike in "non-neighbour" or RP-related traps (pim6Rp-src) on a given interface (pim1IfcName) would identify a misconfigured or flapping PIM neighbor relationship needing investigation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PIM neighbor loss/non-neighbor events
  • PIM event message type
  • PIM source/destination address per event
  • PIM rendezvous-point (RP) related events
