Category: ATM

Description: Provides Nortel Magellan Passport base ATM interface configuration and common VC management objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-AtmBaseMIB?

Nortel-Magellan-Passport-AtmBaseMIB provides the base ATM interface configuration and common virtual-channel/virtual-path management objects for Nortel's Magellan Passport wide-area switching platform. It exposes provisioning and resource-capacity data for ATM resource components, such as connection-pool capacity, multicast-branch capacity, and transmit frame-memory allocation, through row-status-controlled provisioning tables. Its monitoring value is mainly around software/resource-configuration status: administrators check whether ATM resource components are correctly provisioned and how much connection or multicast capacity remains available on a given switch card, rather than reading physical sensors. As a 'base' MIB it underlies other Magellan Passport ATM feature MIBs (e.g., VP/VC-specific and signaling MIBs) that build on its component and row-status model. It is deployed in legacy Nortel Magellan Passport ATM WAN switches used by carriers for ATM backbone and access services, typically after a Nortel-Magellan-Passport-AtmBaseMIB download is loaded into a legacy MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-AtmBaseMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Magellan Passport ATM WAN switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll lpArcProvTable/lpArcProvEntry for lpArcTotalConnectionPoolCapacity and lpArcMulticastBranchesCapacity on a given ARC (ATM Resource Component) identified by lpArcComponentName/lpArcIndex to see how much connection or multicast capacity remains before new VCs can no longer be provisioned. Checking lpArcRowStatus in lpArcRowStatusTable confirms whether a resource component is active, and a component stuck in a non-active row status would explain provisioning failures on that card.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATM connection pool capacity
  • multicast branch capacity
  • transmit frame memory allocation
  • ATM resource component row status
