Description: Marvell Semiconductor FCoE Initialization Protocol (FIP) MIB providing management objects for FIP snooping on Marvell switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MARVELL-FIP-MIB?

This is a Marvell Semiconductor private MIB for FCoE Initialization Protocol (FIP) snooping on Marvell-based switches, supporting Fibre Channel over Ethernet deployments in converged data center networks. It exposes interface-level FIP configuration (rlFipIfTable), a table of discovered/configured FCoE Forwarder (FCF) MAC addresses (rlFipGlobalFcfListTable), and static FCoE tunnel configuration (rlFipStaticFcoeTunnelTable). Its monitoring value is in confirming FCoE convergence health: verifying which interfaces are FIP-snooping enabled, which FCFs have been discovered and are active on the fabric, and whether static FCoE tunnels are correctly established, all of which affect whether storage traffic can reach its FC target. It works alongside standard FC/FCoE and Ethernet interface MIBs since FIP snooping operates transparently on top of normal Layer 2 switching. It is deployed on Marvell-chipset data center switches acting as FIP snooping bridges between FCoE-capable servers and FCoE Forwarders/storage fabrics. Engineers can download the MARVELL-FIP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MARVELL-FIP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Marvell-based FCoE/data center Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

A storage network admin would poll rlFipGlobalFcfListTable to confirm that an expected FCoE Forwarder MAC address is present and its rlFipGlobalFcfListStatus shows active, indicating the fabric is reachable. rlFipIfType and rlFipIfRowStatus on a given interface confirm FIP snooping is correctly enabled on server-facing ports. If a host loses its FCoE storage path, checking rlFipStaticFcoeTunnelTable/rlFipStaticFcoeTunnelPort can reveal a misconfigured or down static tunnel.

What Can Be Monitored

  • FIP snooping status per interface
  • discovered FCoE Forwarder (FCF) MAC addresses and status
  • static FCoE tunnel configuration and port mapping
