Description: IEEE 802.1 MIB for Provider Backbone Bridging (802.1ah, MAC-in-MAC) managing backbone service and customer instances.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is IEEE8021-PBB-MIB?
IEEE8021-PBB-MIB is the standard IEEE 802.1 Working Group MIB (part of IEEE Std 802.1Q) managing Provider Backbone Bridge (PBB, IEEE 802.1ah), which encapsulates customer Ethernet frames inside a provider MAC header for carrier-scale scaling. Its objects cover the Backbone Edge Bridge (BEB) address/name, I-component/B-component/BEB-port counts, next available PIP (Provider Instance Port) ifIndex, a VIP (Virtual Instance Port) table (PIP ifIndex, I-SID, default destination B-MAC, type, row status, connection-ID enable), an I-SID-to-VIP mapping table (component ID, port), and a PIP table (B-MAC address, name, I-component ID). As a configuration MIB it lets an administrator confirm I-SID-to-service-instance mapping and backbone MAC addressing on a PBB-capable bridge. It is deployed on network devices implementing IEEE 802.1Q Provider Backbone Bridging. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the IEEE8021-PBB-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IEEE8021-PBB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Network devices implementing IEEE 802.1Q Provider Backbone Bridging
Monitoring Examples
An administrator checks ieee8021PbbISidToVipTable to confirm which service instance a given I-SID maps to on an IEEE 802.1ah Provider Backbone Bridge.
What Can Be Monitored
- I-SID to service-instance mapping and backbone addressing

RFC description
Standards-based MIB (IEEE 802.1); manages Provider Backbone Bridges (PBB), including I-SID allocation, MAC-in-MAC encapsulation, and traffic engineering.
Start monitoring Vendor-neutral IEEE 802.1ah standard (Provider Backbone Bridge-capable network device) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
