Description: Marvell Semiconductor Loopback Detection (LBD) MIB providing objects for detecting and responding to network loops on switch ports.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is MARVELL-LBD-MIB?
MARVELL-LBD-MIB is a Marvell Semiconductor private MIB implementing Loopback Detection (LBD) on Ethernet switches built around Marvell switching silicon. It belongs to the Layer-2 network-loop-protection category, exposing global LBD enable/mode/interval configuration alongside a per-port table of administrative and operational loop-detection status. Its monitoring value is squarely on software/fault status at the port level: rlLbdPortOperStatus reveals whether a port has actually detected a network loop and shut itself down, a direct fault indicator distinct from simple link up/down state. The module description gives no explicit dependency, but as a switch-silicon MIB it is expected to be used alongside standard IF-MIB/BRIDGE-MIB port and bridge objects for full port context. It is typically deployed on unmanaged-to-mid-range Ethernet switches from various OEMs that license Marvell switching ASICs, wherever loopback/broadcast-storm protection on access ports is needed. Engineers can download the MARVELL-LBD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MARVELL-LBD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ethernet switches built on Marvell switching silicon
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll rlLbdPortTable/rlLbdPortEntry to compare rlLbdPortAdminStatus against rlLbdPortOperStatus per port; a port administratively enabled for loop detection but reporting an operational status indicating a detected loop signals a cabling mistake, such as a patch cable looping back into the same switch, that is causing a broadcast storm. The global rlLbdEnable, rlLbdMode, and rlLbdDetectionInterval scalars let the admin confirm loop detection is globally active and how frequently the switch checks for loops. This MIB is primarily useful for quickly isolating which access port is the source of a loop-induced network outage.
What Can Be Monitored
- global loopback detection enable state
- loop detection mode and interval
- per-port administrative loop-detection status
- per-port operational loop-detection/fault status
