Description: Manages optical amplifier gain and settings on Infinera DWDM transmission systems.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LUM-OA-MIB?

LUM-OA-MIB is an Infinera-related SNMP MIB for managing optical amplifier (OA) interfaces and settings on DWDM transmission systems, including both the OA modules themselves and associated variable optical attenuator (VOA) client/line interfaces. It exposes general administrative objects (table sizes and last-change timestamps for OA, VOA, VOA-client, VOA-line, and OA-module tables) plus the underlying oaIfTable describing each amplifier interface's name and description. Its core use is monitoring the operational health of critical optical hardware: tracking OA and VOA table sizes and state-change timestamps lets an operator detect when an amplifier module has been added, removed, or has changed operational state, which directly affects optical signal power and overall link performance in a DWDM system. As part of the broader LUM-* MIB family it likely shares the alarm-severity textual convention defined in LUM-ALARM-MIB when reporting amplifier faults. It is deployed on Infinera DWDM transmission platforms where maintaining correct amplifier gain and attenuation is essential to long-haul optical signal integrity. Engineers can download the LUM-OA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LUM-OA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Infinera DWDM optical amplifier module

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll oaGeneralOaIfTableSize and oaGeneralStateLastChangeTime to detect when an optical amplifier interface has been added or its state changed, then walk oaIfTable/oaIfEntry by oaIfIndex to read oaIfName and oaIfDescr for the specific amplifier affected. Tracking oaGeneralVoaClientIfTableSize and oaGeneralVoaLineIfTableSize alongside these changes helps correlate an amplifier gain problem with a change in the associated variable optical attenuator configuration on the client or line side.

What Can Be Monitored

  • optical amplifier interface table size
  • amplifier state last-change time
  • amplifier interface name/description
  • VOA client interface table size
  • VOA line interface table size
  • OA module table size
