Category: Hardware Inventory

Description: Monitors hardware equipment inventory and slot occupancy on Infinera chassis.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LUM-EQUIPMENT-MIB?

LUM-EQUIPMENT-MIB is an Infinera proprietary MIB providing common equipment configuration and inventory management for optical transport network chassis. It exposes subrack, board, power supply, fan, slot, and optical module status and configuration tables, forming the hardware inventory and health backbone for the platform. It is explicitly designed for monitoring hardware status: board presence/state, power supply health, fan operational status, slot occupancy, and pluggable optical module presence, all critical for detecting hardware faults in a telecom transport node. Being a common-equipment MIB, it is typically referenced by or works alongside other Infinera/Lum MIBs (such as LUM-SYSINFO-MIB) that layer software/system-level monitoring on top of this hardware inventory. It is deployed in service-provider and carrier optical transport/DWDM network elements where NMS systems poll chassis-level hardware health across many geographically distributed nodes. Engineers can download the LUM-EQUIPMENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LUM-EQUIPMENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Infinera optical transport network element / chassis

Monitoring Examples

An operator can walk equipmentSubrackTable to enumerate installed subracks/chassis and their status, then cross-reference equipmentGeneralEquipmentBoardTableSize and the board table to detect an unexpectedly removed or failed line card. Polling the power and fan tables (sized via equipmentGeneralEquipmentPowerTableSize and equipmentGeneralEquipmentFanTableSize) surfaces power supply or fan failures before they cause thermal shutdown, while equipmentGeneralEquipmentSlotTableSize and the optical module table track transceiver presence per slot for capacity and inventory planning.

What Can Be Monitored

  • subrack/board presence and status
  • power supply health
  • fan status
  • slot occupancy
  • optical module (transceiver) inventory
