Category: Hardware Inventory

Description: Monitors chassis hardware status and component inventory for NCD network computing device platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NCDCHASS-MIB?

NCDCHASS-MIB is a vendor MIB for NCD (Network Computing Devices) chassis-based thin client/terminal platforms, describing the physical chassis and its installed modules. It exposes hardware inventory data such as chassis type, serial number, and physical change tracking, along with a per-module table listing module location, type, hardware/software version, and serial number. This is fundamentally a hardware-status and inventory MIB: it lets administrators track which modules are installed in a chassis, their firmware/hardware revisions, and when a module was last changed, supporting detection of hardware swaps, downrevved firmware, or unexpected physical reconfiguration. No specific dependency on other standard MIBs is evident beyond generic SNMPv2 conventions. It is typically deployed in NCD networked computing device deployments such as thin-client terminal chassis in enterprise environments. Engineers can download the NCDCHASS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NCDCHASS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NCD networked computing device chassis
  • thin-client terminal hardware

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ncdchassModuleTable/ncdchassModuleEntry to review ncdchassModuleType, ncdchassModuleHwVersion, and ncdchassModuleSwVersion for each installed module, verifying they match an approved hardware/firmware baseline. A change in ncdchassModuleSerialNumber or a recent ncdchassModuleLastChangeTime timestamp would flag that a module was physically replaced, prompting a check of ncdchassPhysicalChanges at the chassis level. Reading ncdchassChasssisSerialNumber against asset records helps confirm the chassis matches inventory expectations.

What Can Be Monitored

  • chassis serial number
  • physical change count
  • per-module type and location
  • module hardware/software version
  • module serial number
  • last module change time
