Category: Optical Networking
Description: Manages alarm notifications and severity levels on Infinera optical transport nodes.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is LUM-ALARM-MIB?
LUM-ALARM-MIB is a stub SNMP module, part of the Infinera-related LUM-* optical transport MIB family, that defines only a shared alarm-severity textual convention used by sibling MIBs such as LUM-IFOTNMON-MIB, LUM-IFPHYSICAL-MIB, and LUM-OA-MIB. Because it is a stub, it does not itself define any runtime data tables covering interfaces, environment, performance, or configuration - its role is purely definitional, providing a standard alarm-severity enumeration referenced by fault/trap objects elsewhere. It therefore has no directly monitorable hardware or software status objects of its own; its value lies entirely in giving alarm/trap objects in other LUM-* MIBs a consistent severity scale, which is what actually flags hardware or software problems (such as optical amplifier faults or OTN errors) when those other MIBs are polled. This dependency relationship - being imported by other Infinera LUM-* optical transport MIBs - is its most notable characteristic. It is deployed as an ancillary support module wherever Infinera DWDM/OTN transport equipment MIBs are loaded, rather than being polled directly. Engineers can download the LUM-ALARM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LUM-ALARM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Infinera optical transport network element (supporting module, not directly polled)
Monitoring Examples
As a textual-convention stub, LUM-ALARM-MIB defines no runtime data objects and offers no direct monitoring scenario of its own; instead, its alarm-severity enumeration is consumed by trap/alarm objects in related MIBs like LUM-OA-MIB and LUM-IFOTNMON-MIB when they report fault conditions such as amplifier gain failure or OTN signal loss.
