Category: Hardware Inventory

Description: Provides inventory data for hardware modules and cards in Infinera chassis.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LUM-INVENTORY-MIB?

LUM-INVENTORY-MIB is an Infinera-related SNMP MIB providing hardware inventory data for the physical modules, cards, and other field-replaceable units in a chassis, explicitly modeled after the standard IETF Entity MIB (RFC 2737). It exposes a physical entity table (invPhysTable) describing each component's description, vendor type, containment hierarchy, physical class, and - critically - its hardware, firmware, and product-data revision levels. This makes it a direct tool for monitoring both hardware and software status: invPhysHardwareRev and invPhysFirmwareRev let an operator confirm which firmware version is running on each card, essential for spotting out-of-date or mismatched software during upgrades or troubleshooting. Its explicit dependency on the Entity MIB (RFC 2737) structure means it can be correlated with standard entPhysicalTable-based inventory tools using the same containment model (invPhysContainedIn, invPhysParentRelPos). It is deployed on Infinera DWDM/OTN chassis to give operators a full hardware/firmware inventory of installed cards and modules, and the LUM-INVENTORY-MIB download is readily loaded into a MIB browser for this purpose.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LUM-INVENTORY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Infinera optical transport chassis/shelf

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would walk invPhysTable/invPhysEntry indexed by invPhysIndex to enumerate every physical component in the chassis, reading invPhysDescr and invPhysClass to identify each card, then checking invPhysFirmwareRev and invPhysHardwareRev to confirm all cards are running the expected firmware version after an upgrade. invPhysContainedIn and invPhysParentRelPos reveal the physical containment hierarchy (e.g. which slot a card sits in within a shelf), useful for locating a specific failed component reported elsewhere.

What Can Be Monitored

  • physical component inventory
  • hardware revision
  • firmware revision
  • product data revision
  • component containment/slot position
  • component class/type
