Description: ISNS-MGMT-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ISNS-MGMT-MIB?

ISNS-MGMT-MIB is an IETF standards-track MIB (associated with RFC 4980-era iSNS work) defining management information specific to the internet Storage Name Service (iSNS), a discovery and management protocol for iSCSI and Fibre Channel storage networks. It exposes configuration and operational data for an iSNS server, covering the registered storage nodes, discovery domains, and service state that iSNS uses to let iSCSI initiators and targets find one another. Its monitoring relevance is centered on software/service status for the iSNS server process itself -- whether the service is running, how many storage nodes/clients are registered, and whether discovery domain memberships are correctly maintained -- rather than physical hardware. As an IETF standard it is self-contained but conceptually depends on the broader iSNS protocol specification (RFC 4171) that defines the underlying wire protocol it manages. It is deployed on iSNS servers within IP-based SAN (iSCSI) environments to help enterprise storage networks track registered storage clients and manage discovery domains, per the ISNS-MGMT-MIB RFC definitions it implements.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ISNS-MGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • iSNS server in an iSCSI/Fibre Channel SAN

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll the iSNS server's client/storage-node registration objects to confirm the expected number of iSCSI initiators and targets are currently registered with the service. Checking discovery domain membership objects would reveal whether a storage node has been incorrectly left out of (or included in) a discovery domain, which would prevent (or wrongly allow) it from being discovered by other iSCSI nodes. Because sample_objects were not provided for this module, specific table/object names cannot be confirmed, though RFC 4980-aligned iSNS MIBs typically expose server, storage-node, and discovery-domain tables of this kind.

What Can Be Monitored

  • iSNS server operational status
  • registered storage node/client count
  • discovery domain membership
  • storage node registration state

RFC description

IETF standard MIB for iSNS (Internet Storage Name Service) management; defines objects for managing iSNS servers and client interactions.

Start monitoring Vendor-neutral IETF standard (iSNS server in an iSCSI/Fibre Channel SAN) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
