Description: Manages Fabric Device Management Interface (FDMI) HBA attribute registration on HP/Comware SAN switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-FDMI-MIB?

HPN-ICF-FDMI-MIB is an HP/Comware ICF MIB implementing the Fibre Channel Fabric Device Management Interface (FDMI), used to track Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) that have registered themselves with an FC fabric. It exposes a per-HBA information table capturing identity (node name, manufacturer, serial number, model), and crucially software/firmware version data (hardware version, driver version, boot/option-ROM version). Its monitoring value is centered on software/firmware status of attached storage-network hardware: administrators can audit which HBAs are registered in the fabric and verify driver/firmware versions are current and consistent, catching outdated or mismatched adapters before they cause SAN instability. It directly depends on and interoperates with the Fibre Channel Generic Services-6 (FC-GS-6) FDMI standard referenced in its description. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware-based SAN/FC switches used in storage-area network fabrics, and administrators typically load it into an HPN-ICF-FDMI-MIB MIB Browser session to review the FDMI object tree before polling.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-FDMI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware SAN/Fibre Channel switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls hpnicfFdmiHbaInfoTable/hpnicfFdmiHbaInfoEntry keyed by hpnicfFdmiHbaInfoFabricIndex and hpnicfFdmiHbaInfoId to list every HBA registered in the fabric, checking hpnicfFdmiHbaInfoMfg, hpnicfFdmiHbaInfoModel, and hpnicfFdmiHbaInfoSn for inventory purposes. Comparing hpnicfFdmiHbaInfoDriverVer and hpnicfFdmiHbaInfoOptROMVer across all entries can reveal a host still running outdated HBA firmware after a fleet-wide upgrade. A newly appearing hpnicfFdmiHbaInfoNodeName not matching an approved asset list would flag an unauthorized or unexpected host joining the fabric.

What Can Be Monitored

  • registered HBA inventory
  • HBA manufacturer/model/serial number
  • HBA driver version
  • HBA hardware version
  • HBA option-ROM/firmware version
