Description: Manages N-Port Virtualization (NPV) mode configuration for SAN edge switch aggregation on HP/Comware FC switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-NPV-MIB?

HPN-ICF-NPV-MIB is a Hewlett-Packard (HP Networking, Comware/H3C-derived "ICF" MIB family) vendor-specific MIB that manages N-Port Virtualization (NPV) for Fibre Channel SAN edge switches operating within an NPV architecture. It models the load-balancing trigger for a VSAN via hpnicfNpvLoadbalanceVsan, per-interface/VSAN traffic mapping assignments in hpnicfNpvTrafficMapConfigTable (hpnicfNpvTrafficMapExternalIfIndexList, hpnicfNpvTrafficMapRowStatus, hpnicfNpvTrafficMapLastChange), and the external uplink interface actually assigned to each server-facing interface in hpnicfNpvServerIfTable (hpnicfNpvExternalIfIndex). This lets an operator confirm that NPV edge switches are correctly restricting or distributing traffic across specific uplinks to the NPV core switch, reducing Fibre Channel domain ID consumption in the SAN. It depends on HPN-ICF-FC-TC-MIB and HPN-ICF-VSAN-MIB for VSAN/FC textual conventions and IF-MIB for ifIndex, and administrators can download the HPN-ICF-NPV-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-NPV-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP Comware-based Fibre Channel SAN edge switches (NPV mode)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls hpnicfNpvServerIfTable to see which hpnicfNpvExternalIfIndex a given server-facing FC port is currently using, and checks hpnicfNpvTrafficMapConfigTable's hpnicfNpvTrafficMapRowStatus for that VSAN; a server interface with no external interface assigned indicates none of its configured uplinks are currently valid, breaking connectivity to the fabric.

What Can Be Monitored

  • NPV load-balancing trigger per VSAN
  • traffic map external interface assignments
  • traffic map row status / last-change timestamp
  • server interface to external interface mapping
