Description: Manages user-network interface (UNI) port configuration and statistics on HP/Comware EPON access devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-EPON-UNI-MIB?

HPN-ICF-EPON-UNI-MIB manages the User-Network Interface (UNI) ports on HP Networking EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) Optical Network Units (ONUs), the subscriber-facing Ethernet ports on fiber access equipment. It exposes per-port configuration and status through hpnicfEponUniSysManTable, including administrative status, port description, MDI/MDI-X setting, priority, and VLAN configuration such as access VLAN, trunk PVID, and trunk allow-list VLAN range. Its monitoring value is in confirming the operational and configuration status of subscriber-facing ports on fiber access hardware — whether a UNI port is administratively up, correctly VLAN-tagged for the subscriber's service, and configured with the right priority — useful for diagnosing a subscriber connectivity or VLAN misconfiguration issue. It is closely related to the EPON/EOC common MIB family and depends on the underlying ONU hardware model rather than a general IETF standard. It is deployed by fiber access network operators managing ONU customer-facing ports in FTTH/FTTB PON deployments. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the HPN-ICF-EPON-UNI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-EPON-UNI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP Networking EPON ONU (Optical Network Unit)

Monitoring Examples

An operator troubleshooting a subscriber with no connectivity can check hpnicfEponUniAdminStatus and hpnicfEponUniAccessVlan/hpnicfEponUniTrunkPvid on the relevant hpnicfEponUniSysManTable entry to confirm the UNI port is enabled and mapped to the correct VLAN; a port showing the wrong hpnicfEponUniVlanType or an unexpected hpnicfEponUniVLANTrunkAllowListLow/High range would explain traffic being dropped or misrouted for that subscriber.

What Can Be Monitored

  • UNI port admin status
  • port VLAN type and access VLAN/trunk PVID
  • VLAN trunk allow-list range
  • port priority
  • MDI/MDI-X setting
