Description: Manages Edge Virtual Bridging (EVB/IEEE 802.1Qbg) configuration for virtualized server edge connectivity on HP/Comware switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-EVB-MIB?

HPN-ICF-EVB-MIB is an HP Networking (Comware/H3C) vendor MIB implementing management for Edge Virtual Bridging (EVB, IEEE 802.1Qbg), a technology that lets a physical switch port coordinate virtual switching with a hypervisor's virtual machines. It exposes configuration objects for EVB bridge managers (their type, ID, and associated port) and per-port EVB settings, along with related Flex-10 port-partitioning objects. From a monitoring standpoint this MIB is primarily about software-defined edge-networking configuration state rather than classic hardware health, but the manager table's row status and the set-result scalar let an operator confirm whether EVB configuration operations succeeded or are pending, which is important for verifying virtualization-aware networking is correctly provisioned on a given port. It is explicitly built as an extension of the standard IEEE8021-EVB-MIB, adding vendor-specific manager and Flex-10 objects. It is typically deployed on HP/Comware access switches connecting to virtualized server hosts where VM traffic needs to be recognized and managed at the network edge. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the HPN-ICF-EVB-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-EVB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware access switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would inspect hpnicfEvbDefaultManagerTable (via hpnicfEvbManagerIndex, hpnicfEvbManagerType, hpnicfEvbManagerID, hpnicfEvbManagerPort) to confirm which EVB manager is bound to which port, and check hpnicfEvbManagerRowStatus to verify the manager entry is active rather than stuck in a notInService or notReady state. The hpnicfEvbPortConfigTable, keyed by hpnicfEvbPortNumber, would be polled to review per-port EVB settings, and hpnicfEvbSetResult would be checked after a configuration push to confirm the operation succeeded rather than silently failing.

What Can Be Monitored

  • EVB manager type/ID/port binding
  • manager row status
  • per-port EVB configuration
  • EVB configuration set result
  • Flex-10 port partitioning objects
