What Is HP-SN-IPX-MIB?

HP-SN-IPX-MIB is a vendor MIB, inherited from Foundry Networks technology used in HP ServerNet (SN) branded switches, for managing and monitoring the legacy IPX (Novell NetWare) routing protocol on those devices. It exposes configuration objects such as IPX routing mode and NetBIOS filter mode alongside operational traffic counters for received, transmitted, forwarded, and dropped/filtered IPX packets, plus RIP filter list configuration. Its monitoring role is mainly software/protocol-status oriented: administrators track packet counters like snIpxRcvPktsCnt, snIpxTxPktsCnt, snIpxFwdPktsCnt, and snIpxRcvDropPktsCnt/snIpxRcvFiltPktsCnt to detect IPX routing problems, misconfigured filters, or unexpected packet drops, and can issue snIpxClearCache/snIpxClearRoute/snIpxClearTrafficCnts operations to reset state. It is part of the broader HP/Foundry SN enterprise MIB family and depends on that vendor's general switch/routing object conventions for indexing. It was typically deployed on HP ServerNet (Foundry-derived) Layer 3 switches in legacy enterprise networks still running Novell NetWare/IPX alongside IP. Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll snIpxRcvPktsCnt, snIpxTxPktsCnt, and snIpxFwdPktsCnt to baseline normal IPX traffic levels on the switch, then watch snIpxRcvDropPktsCnt and snIpxRcvFiltPktsCnt for a spike indicating misconfigured filters or a failing IPX link. snIpxRoutingMode and snIpxNetBiosFilterMode would be checked to confirm the switch is operating in the intended routing/filtering mode, and snIpxRipGblFiltList/snIpxRipFiltOnAllPort reviewed to verify RIP route filtering matches policy. snIpxClearTrafficCnts would be invoked to reset counters after a maintenance window for a clean baseline.
