Description: HP ICF SNMP MIB for Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) session configuration and status on HP ProCurve routing switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HP-ICF-BFD-MIB?

HP-ICF-BFD-MIB is an HP proprietary extension providing Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) session configuration and status for HP ProCurve routing switches, described in the module as an extension to the OSPF-MIB. BFD is a lightweight protocol for rapid detection of link/path failures between adjacent routing devices, so this MIB's data would cover per-session state, timers, and detection status. Its monitoring value is fault detection for routing adjacencies: BFD session status directly indicates whether a neighboring router/link is alive, providing much faster failure detection than routing-protocol hello timers alone, which is critical for high-availability routing environments. It explicitly builds on and extends the OSPF-MIB, tying BFD session state to OSPF neighbor relationships. It is deployed on HP ProCurve routing switches participating in OSPF where sub-second failure detection is required, and administrators can download the HP-ICF-BFD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-ICF-BFD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP ProCurve/HPE Networking switches and routers (BFD)

Monitoring Examples

No object names were available in the provided sample for this MIB, so specific table/object names cannot be honestly given; conceptually, an admin would expect to poll a BFD session table (indexed by neighbor address) for session state (up/down), remaining detection time, and configured transmit/receive intervals, correlating a BFD session going down with a corresponding OSPF adjacency loss. Without concrete object names in the sample, no invented identifiers are used here.
