What Is IANA-BFD-TC-STD-MIB?
IANA-BFD-TC-STD-MIB is an IANA-maintained, vendor-neutral IETF standards MIB (defined per RFC 7331) that provides textual conventions for Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD), specifically enumerated types for BFD session state and diagnostic codes. It exposes no runtime data objects itself, only the shared data types (state and diagnostic-code enumerations) that other BFD MIBs use to represent session status. Its monitoring relevance is indirect but important for software status: the diagnostic-code textual convention it defines is what lets a management station interpret why a BFD session transitioned to Down (e.g., control detection time expired, echo function failed), which is central to fast-failure-detection software running on a router. It is a foundational dependency for the standard BFD-STD-MIB and any vendor BFD MIB that implements RFC 7331-based BFD session monitoring. It is deployed wherever BFD is used for sub-second link/path failure detection between routers, typically in service-provider and enterprise core networks. This module defines no sample tables or scalars of its own - only TEXTUAL-CONVENTION types such as a BFD session state enumeration and a BFD diagnostic code enumeration - so there is no independent object to poll. These conventions are imported by BFD-STD-MIB's bfdSessTable, where a session's bfdSessState and bfdSessDiag columns use the types defined here. An operator troubleshooting a flapping BFD session would rely on the diagnostic-code enumeration from this module to decode why bfdSessState dropped to down.
