Description: GroupWise OVVM MIB for monitoring Novell GroupWise object volume and version management service status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is GWOVVMMIB?

This is a Novell GroupWise MIB for monitoring the Object Volume and Version Management (OVVM) gateway service, which routes messages between GroupWise domains and foreign/external mail systems. It exposes gateway identity and traffic-oriented objects: link status to the GroupWise system and to the foreign system, message and byte counters in each direction, and error/status counts. Notably it includes an explicit uptime object for the gateway software, directly supporting monitoring of service availability alongside throughput and error-rate health indicators that reveal mail-relay problems. It is a self-contained enterprise MIB with no apparent dependency on other standard MIBs beyond basic SNMP SMI conventions. It would be deployed on a Novell GroupWise server hosting the OVVM gateway component, monitored by a mail-system administrator to ensure message flow between GroupWise and connected foreign messaging systems remains healthy. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the GWOVVMMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GWOVVMMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Novell GroupWise server (OVVM gateway component)

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls ngwovvmUptime to confirm the gateway process has been running continuously, alongside ngwovvmGroupWiseLink and ngwovvmFrgnLink to verify connectivity states to both the GroupWise domain and the foreign mail system. Rising ngwovvmOutErrors or ngwovvmInErrors relative to ngwovvmOutMsgs/ngwovvmInMsgs would indicate a growing proportion of failed message transfers, while ngwovvmOutBytes and ngwovvmInBytes give a sense of mail traffic volume through the gateway identified by ngwovvmGatewayName.

What Can Be Monitored

  • gateway uptime
  • GroupWise link status
  • foreign system link status
  • inbound/outbound message counts
  • inbound/outbound byte counts
