Description: GroupWise ADA (Address Book) agent MIB for monitoring Novell GroupWise address directory synchronization service.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is GWADA-MIB?
GWADA-MIB is a Novell GroupWise-specific MIB for monitoring the GroupWise Address Book Agent (ADA), the service responsible for synchronizing address book directory data across post offices in a GroupWise domain. It exposes agent identity and operating-mode data, the count of post offices being serviced, the count of closed or unreachable post offices, and message-processing counters for completed and errored synchronization operations. It is squarely a software service-health MIB: adaUptime tracks how long the agent process has been running, adaCompletedMsgs and adaErrorMsgs reveal synchronization throughput and failure rates, and adaClosedPostOffices flags post offices the agent currently cannot reach. As a Novell-proprietary MIB it does not depend on IETF standard MIBs, though it is commonly deployed alongside sibling GroupWise agent MIBs (API gateway, WebAccess) within the same enterprise tree. It is typically deployed on Novell GroupWise domain/post office servers running the ADA background synchronization service. Engineers can download the GWADA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GWADA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Novell GroupWise domain/post office server
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll adaTable/adaEntry rows (indexed by adaIndex) to compare adaTotalPostOffices against adaClosedPostOffices and see how many post offices the address book agent currently cannot reach. A rising adaErrorMsgs count alongside a flat adaCompletedMsgs count would indicate synchronization is failing, while adaUptime resetting unexpectedly would signal an agent crash or restart; adaCurrentLogFile and adaLogLevel let an operator confirm which log to inspect and at what verbosity.
What Can Be Monitored
- address book agent uptime
- total post offices serviced
- closed/unreachable post offices
- completed synchronization messages
- synchronization error messages
- current log file and log level
