Category: Vendor: Novell/GroupWise
Description: GroupWise monitor MIB for collecting Novell GroupWise system-wide performance and health monitoring data.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is GWMONITOR-MIB?
GWMONITOR-MIB is a Novell vendor MIB used by the GroupWise Monitor component to report system-wide health status of GroupWise messaging agents (post office agents, message transfer agents, etc.) across a GroupWise domain. It exposes agent identity (name, type, hosting server name/IP), current status and how long that status has persisted, plus configurable performance thresholds and their severity levels. It is a software status/performance monitoring MIB: gwmonStatus and gwmonStatusDuration directly report whether a given GroupWise agent is up, down, or degraded and for how long, while gwmonThreshold/gwmonThresholdSeverity flag when a monitored metric has crossed a defined severity level, triggering a trap. It is specific to Novell GroupWise and depends on the GroupWise Monitor agent's own polling of the various GroupWise agents rather than on a separate standard MIB. It is deployed in enterprise environments running Novell/Micro Focus GroupWise email and collaboration servers, where administrators need centralized SNMP visibility into agent health, making GWMONITOR-MIB SNMP monitoring the standard way to track GroupWise agent uptime and thresholds.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GWMONITOR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Novell/Micro Focus GroupWise messaging server (Post Office Agent, Message Transfer Agent)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll gwmonStatus and gwmonStatusDuration for each GroupWise agent (identified by gwmonAgentName, gwmonAgentType, and the hosting gwmonServerName/gwmonServerIPAddress) to spot an agent that has been down or degraded for an extended period. gwmonThreshold and gwmonThresholdValues would be checked against gwmonThresholdSeverity to see which performance metrics, such as queue depth or message backlog, have crossed a warning or critical level. gwmonTrapTime and gwmonTrapInfo record when and why a monitoring trap was generated, useful for correlating an alert with the agent that triggered it.
What Can Be Monitored
- GroupWise agent status
- status duration
- performance threshold values and severity
- agent name/type and hosting server
- trap event time and details
