What Is ERI-DNX-SMC-MIB?

ERI-DNX-SMC-MIB is a vendor-specific enterprise module from ERI for managing the System Management Controller (SMC) card, which provides centralized control and monitoring within a DNX telecom chassis. It exposes a generic resource table modeling every managed resource in the system, along with its address, type, and current state, plus a set of severity-tiered alarm masks. It is explicitly a fault/status-monitoring MIB: resourceState reports the live operational state of each hardware resource, while resourceCriticalMask, resourceMajorMask, resourceMinorMask, and resourceNominalMask classify alarms by severity and resourceTrapMask controls which conditions generate SNMP traps. It is a self-contained enterprise MIB rooted under the vendor's own dnx/sysMgr OID tree rather than depending on external standards, and an operator tracing a fault often needs to know the exact ERI-DNX-SMC-MIB OID for resourceState or one of the alarm masks to configure a targeted trap filter. It is deployed on ERI DNX telecom multiplexer/chassis systems where the SMC card centrally supervises other cards and resources.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERI-DNX-SMC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An operator would walk resourceTable/resourceEntry to enumerate every managed resource by resourceKey and resourceAddr, checking resourceType and resourceState to see whether each resource (e.g., a card or subsystem) is normal or faulted. A resourceState transitioning to a fault value combined with a set bit in resourceCriticalMask would indicate a critical hardware failure needing immediate escalation, while a resourceMinorMask hit alone might just be logged. resourceTrapMask determines whether that specific state change is forwarded as an SNMP trap to a management station in real time.
