Description: Enterasys Networks Secure Shell (SSH) server MIB for enabling and configuring SSH-based management access on embedded switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ENTERASYS-SSH-SERVER-MIB?

ENTERASYS-SSH-SERVER-MIB is an Enterasys Networks proprietary MIB that configures the embedded Secure Shell (SSH) server used for secure remote management of Enterasys devices. It exposes a subset of SSH server settings suited to an embedded implementation: enable/disable state, allowed ciphers and MACs, key rekey interval, login grace time, idle timeout, maximum and current connection counts, and host key generation control. Its monitoring value is chiefly software/service-status visibility -- whether the SSH management service is enabled, how many sessions are currently active versus the configured maximum, and event-log filtering for SSH-related security events. It is a device-specific companion to the general concept of SSH (RFC 4251 et al.) rather than a direct extension of another standard MIB. It is deployed on Enterasys switches and wireless controllers as part of securing out-of-band and in-band management access, and administrators can download the ENTERASYS-SSH-SERVER-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for reference.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ENTERASYS-SSH-SERVER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Enterasys/Extreme Networks switches and wireless controllers

Monitoring Examples

An admin would check etsysSshEnabled and etsysSshNumConnections against etsysSshMaxConnections to confirm the SSH service is active and not near its session limit, which would otherwise cause new management connections to be refused. Reviewing etsysSshCiphers and etsysSshMACs verifies the device is only allowing approved cryptographic algorithms per security policy. etsysSshIdleTimeout and etsysSshLoginGraceTime settings can be checked to confirm idle sessions are being closed as expected.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SSH service enable state
  • current vs. maximum SSH connections
  • allowed ciphers and MACs
  • idle timeout and login grace time
  • rekey interval
  • SSH event log filtering
