Description: Enterasys Networks TACACS+ client MIB for configuring TACACS+ server addresses, shared secrets, and authentication parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ENTERASYS-TACACS-CLIENT-MIB?

This Enterasys enterprise MIB configures the device's TACACS+ client used for centralized authentication, authorization, and accounting of administrative sessions and commands. It exposes configuration objects enabling/disabling session and command-level authentication/accounting, per-privilege-level authorization attributes, and a table of configured TACACS+ servers. While primarily configuration data, it supports monitoring of the AAA security posture of a device -- an admin can verify TACACS+ authentication/accounting is enabled as expected and confirm which servers (etsysTacacsClientServerTable) are configured, helping diagnose failed logins tied to AAA misconfiguration. It builds on general TACACS+ protocol concepts but is a self-contained Enterasys proprietary module. It is typically deployed in enterprise networks requiring centralized AAA for switch/router administrative access. Engineers can download the ENTERASYS-TACACS-CLIENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ENTERASYS-TACACS-CLIENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Enterasys Networks switches/routers

Monitoring Examples

An operator can check etsysTacacsClientSesnAuthEnabled and etsysTacacsClientCmdAuthEnabled to confirm session and command authorization are turned on, then inspect etsysTacacsClientServerTable to verify the correct TACACS+ server is configured and reachable. The etsysTacacsClientSesnAuthTable, indexed by etsysTacacsClientSesnAuthLevel, shows which authorization attributes/values apply per privilege level, useful for diagnosing why a user at a given level is denied a command.

What Can Be Monitored

  • TACACS+ session authentication/accounting enable state
  • command authentication/accounting enable state
  • configured TACACS+ server list
  • per-privilege-level authorization attributes
