What Is EDB-snmp?

EDB-snmp is EnterpriseDB's SNMP MIB used alongside its PostgreSQL-based database tooling. Based on the objects actually defined in the module, it exposes trap-destination/notification-routing configuration -- registered receiver address, community string, SNMP version, and per-entry state -- rather than deep query-level PostgreSQL internals directly. Its practical monitoring value is confirming the health of the alerting pipeline itself: which management stations are registered to receive traps, at what SNMP version/community, and whether learning/aging of these registrations is enabled, which is how an operator ultimately learns about database-level events surfaced by the underlying EDB agent. No explicit dependency on other MIBs is stated in the available module description. It is typically deployed on EnterpriseDB PostgreSQL servers where the EDB SNMP agent forwards database health traps to one or more registered NMS trap receivers. Engineers can download the EDB-snmp file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll rTrapAddrTbl/rTrapAddrEntry indexed by rTrapAddrAddr to confirm rTrapAddrComm and rTrapAddrVer are correctly set for each registered trap receiver, and check rTrapAddrState/rTrapAddrFlag/rTrapAddrAge to see whether a receiver entry is active or has aged out of the table. The related pTrapAddrTbl and rTrapLearning/rTrapAging objects would be checked to verify whether new trap-destination entries are still being learned/refreshed, which matters for ensuring database alert traps keep reaching the intended monitoring station.
