Description: IBM MIB for monitoring storage subsystem configuration and performance on IBM server platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IBM-SYSTEM-STORAGE-MIB?

IBM-SYSTEM-STORAGE-MIB is an IBM enterprise MIB for monitoring storage subsystems, such as external storage controllers and disk enclosures, attached to IBM server platforms. It exposes controller-level identification (model, serial number) and per-disk-drive inventory and status objects, plus a trap for storage-related fault conditions. Its central purpose is hardware health monitoring: disk drive presence and identity, controller model/serial for asset tracking, and traps signaling drive or controller failures, letting administrators detect a failed or missing disk before data loss occurs. It is a vendor-specific extension typically used alongside standard host-resources or IBM system MIBs for complete server-and-storage visibility. It is deployed in IBM server and storage environments where SNMP-based storage monitoring is integrated into a broader data-center NMS. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the IBM-SYSTEM-STORAGE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBM-SYSTEM-STORAGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • IBM System Storage controllers and disk enclosures
  • IBM servers with attached storage

Monitoring Examples

An admin can poll ibmStorageControllerTable, keyed by ibmStorageControllerKeyIndex, for ibmStorageControllerModel and ibmStorageControllerSerialNumber to inventory attached controllers, and poll ibmStorageDiskDriveTable for ibmStorageDiskDriveDeviceID and ibmStorageDiskDriveName per drive. A previously present entry disappearing from ibmStorageDiskDriveTable, or an ibmStorageTrap carrying ibmStorageTrapInfo, would indicate a disk drive has failed or been removed.

What Can Be Monitored

  • storage controller identity
  • disk drive inventory
  • disk drive status
  • storage fault traps
