What Is EATON-EMP-MIB?

This is an Eaton vendor MIB, extracted from the broader Eaton PowerMIB, dedicated to the Environmental Monitoring Probe (EMP) accessory used with Eaton UPS and power distribution equipment to monitor ambient conditions around the equipment. It exposes environmental sensor data — remote temperature and humidity readings — along with a set of configurable dry-contact inputs and their type/state/description. It is squarely a hardware/environmental monitoring MIB, letting administrators track temperature and humidity in the equipment room or rack alongside upper/lower alarm thresholds, and monitor auxiliary contact sensors (such as door or water-leak sensors) for facility-level fault conditions rather than the UPS's own internal status. It is explicitly derived from and depends on the Eaton PowerMIB (the object identifiers were extracted from it into this separate module), so it is deployed alongside that core UPS MIB. It is typically deployed in data center or telecom equipment rooms where an Eaton EMP probe is attached to a UPS to provide environmental and contact-sensor monitoring alongside power protection. Engineers can download the EATON-EMP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EATON-EMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. An administrator would poll xupsEnvRemoteTemp and xupsEnvRemoteHumidity and compare them against xupsEnvRemoteTempLowerLimit/xupsEnvRemoteTempUpperLimit and the corresponding humidity limits to detect an overheating or over-humid equipment room; walking xupsContactSenseTable/xupsContactsTableEntry and reading xupsContactState for each xupsContactIndex (described via xupsContactDescr) would reveal whether an auxiliary sensor, such as a door or water sensor wired to xupsEnvNumContacts contacts, has tripped.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using xupsEnvRemoteTemp OID:

Select an Eaton UPS/power equipment with Environmental Monitoring Probe (EMP) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type xupsEnvRemoteTemp into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The reading of an EMP's temperature sensor. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the reported value exceeds the level expected for healthy operation, since sustained high temperature often precedes thermal shutdown or hardware degradation. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
