Category: Header Compression, Vendor: Aastra

Description: Manages Aastra MLPPP (Multilink PPP) bundle configuration, link aggregation, and per-bundle statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CXMLPPP-MIB?

CXMLPPP-MIB is a vendor-specific Aastra/CX MIB managing MLPPP (Multilink PPP) bundle configuration, covering link aggregation across multiple WAN circuits into a single logical bundle, buffer pool sizing, and per-bundle/link status. It exposes both static buffer configuration (small/large buffer counts and sizes) and live operational counts of active bundles and links, plus software version tracking. For hardware/software status monitoring, mlpppNbActiveBundle, mlpppNbActiveUSap, and mlpppNbActiveLSap give a real-time view of how many MLPPP bundles and member links are currently up, while mlpppNbSmallBufsFree/mlpppNbLargeBufsFree reveal buffer exhaustion that would cause packet loss under load; mlpppSoftwareVersion supports firmware audits across a fleet. It builds on the standard PPP/Multilink PPP protocol (RFC 1990) at the WAN link layer. It is typically deployed on Aastra CX WAN routers aggregating multiple leased lines or ISDN B-channels into higher-bandwidth logical links at enterprise branch sites.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CXMLPPP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Aastra ConvertedX (CX) WAN router with MLPPP bundling

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll mlpppNbActiveBundle and mlpppNbActiveLSap to confirm the expected number of MLPPP bundles and constituent links are currently active, catching a member link that has silently dropped out of a bundle. mlpppNbSmallBufsFree and mlpppNbLargeBufsFree would be watched under heavy traffic load; a free-buffer count trending toward zero signals impending packet drops due to buffer exhaustion. mlpppLSapTable would be inspected to see per-link status within a bundle when only partial bandwidth is being observed instead of the full aggregated capacity, a check that often starts with a CXMLPPP-MIB download to load the module into a MIB browser.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active MLPPP bundle count
  • active link (U-SAP/L-SAP) count
  • free small/large buffer count
  • software version
  • per-link bundle status
