What Is CTRON-IF-REMAP-2-MIB?

CTRON-IF-REMAP-2-MIB is a Cabletron (Enterasys) enterprise MIB that provides version 2 of an interface-remapping facility, letting a physical port on one slot be logically mapped to appear as a different destination slot/port for switching or management purposes. It exposes configuration objects describing the source and destination slot/port pairing, the remap's administrative/operational status, and a count of physical-layer errors seen on the remapped interface. From a monitoring standpoint it functions as both a configuration-verification tool (confirming a remap took effect as intended) and a hardware-fault indicator, since ctIFRemap2PhysicalErrors surfaces physical-layer error conditions on the mapped port that could indicate a bad cable, transceiver, or port hardware. It complements the standard IF-MIB, since remapped interfaces still need to be correlated back to their ifIndex-based counters for full traffic visibility. It is used on modular Cabletron/Enterasys switches where physical port-to-logical-interface mapping needs to be reassigned, for example during slot/module replacement or cabling reorganization. Engineers can download the CTRON-IF-REMAP-2-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-IF-REMAP-2-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron/Enterasys modular chassis switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ctIFRemap2Table entries, checking ctIFRemap2SourceSlot/ctIFRemap2SourcePort against ctIFRemap2DestSlot/ctIFRemap2DestPort to confirm a given physical port is remapped to the intended logical destination. Checking ctIFRemap2Status alongside ctIFRemap2PhysicalErrors reveals whether the remap is active and whether the underlying physical port is accumulating errors — a rising error count on an otherwise active remap would point to a faulty cable or transceiver on that port. The companion ctIFRemap2PortTable/ctIFRemap2PortSlot objects let the admin cross-reference per-port remap assignments across the chassis.

What Can Be Monitored

  • source-to-destination slot/port remap mapping
  • remap admin/operational status
  • physical-layer error counts on remapped ports
  • egress type configuration
