Category: Network Interfaces, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Manages Cabletron interface remapping tables mapping physical ports to logical interface identifiers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CTRON-IF-REMAP-MIB?

CTRON-IF-REMAP-MIB is a Cabletron Systems enterprise MIB that manages interface remapping, controlling how physical ports are mapped to logical interface identifiers (ifIndex values) on a Cabletron device. It exposes a remap table pairing source and destination interface indices along with row status and enable/control flags, plus table-size and capacity objects. For monitoring purposes it lets an operator confirm the remapping table's fill level against its maximum size and check whether physical-interface error detection is enabled, revealing when a device is approaching its remap capacity limit or when error reporting has been disabled unexpectedly, rather than reporting temperature or power data. It builds on the standard IF-MIB ifIndex concept, remapping logical interfaces defined there onto Cabletron's physical port numbering. It is typically used on Cabletron modular chassis switches where physical port numbering needed reconciliation with SNMP ifIndex assignments. Engineers can download the CTRON-IF-REMAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-IF-REMAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron modular chassis switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ctIFRemapTable/ctIFRemapEntry to inspect ctIfRemapSourceIf and ctIfRemapDestIf pairs and their ctIfRemapStatus to verify a specific physical port is correctly mapped to its logical interface. Comparing ctIfRemapTableNumberEntries against ctIfRemapTableMaxNumberEntries would reveal whether the remap table is nearing capacity, which could explain why newly added ports fail to appear as expected. Checking ctIfRemapPhysicalErrorsEnable would confirm whether physical-layer error counting is active for a remapped interface, and ctIfRemapTableEnable/ctIfRemapTableStart would show whether the remapping feature itself is currently running.

What Can Be Monitored

  • interface remap table entry count vs. maximum
  • source-to-destination interface index mapping
  • remap row status
  • physical interface error-detection enable state
  • remap table enable/start state
