What Is CPQSM2-MIB?
CPQSM2-MIB is a Compaq/HP vendor MIB for the iLO (Integrated Lights-Out) remote management board, an out-of-band service processor embedded in ProLiant servers that provides remote power control, console access, and hardware monitoring independent of the host operating system. It exposes management objects covering the iLO board's own identity and status as well as the hardware health data it relays from the host server, such as power state and remote-management session information. Its monitoring purpose spans both hardware and management-plane status: confirming the iLO card itself is reachable and healthy, and using it as a channel to check host power state, since iLO remains accessible even when the host OS is down or the server is powered off, making it critical for detecting a fully unresponsive server. It complements the broader Compaq/HP CPQHLTH/CPQNODE health MIB family by providing an always-on management path to that same health data. It is deployed on ProLiant servers wherever remote out-of-band management and monitoring is required, especially in data centers and colocation environments. Engineers can download the CPQSM2-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll the iLO board's own status objects to verify the management processor is up, then use it to check host power state remotely, distinguishing a powered-off server from one with a hung OS but a live iLO. Since iLO monitoring remains available independent of host OS state, a responsive CPQSM2 object combined with an unreachable host agent strongly suggests an OS-level hang rather than a hardware power failure. No sample objects were provided for this MIB, so exact object names cannot be cited; this reflects the general iLO status/host-power monitoring pattern typical of the CPQSM2 module.
