What Is COLUBRIS-WIRELESS-CLIENT-MIB?
COLUBRIS-WIRELESS-CLIENT-MIB monitors wireless client (station) association, signal quality, and authentication state on Colubris (later HP) access points operating in client/bridge mode. It exposes performance and status data for the wireless link to an upstream AP: signal level, noise level, signal-to-noise ratio, transmit/receive rate, connection time, and authorization/encryption state. Its core monitoring value is wireless link health and software connection status: colubrisWirelessClientSignalLevel/NoiseLevel/SNR reveal RF link quality, colubrisWirelessClientAuthorizedState and colubrisWirelessClientEncryptionStatus confirm the client successfully authenticated and is encrypted, and colubrisWirelessClientConnectTime shows link stability (a low value repeating indicates flapping). It doesn't state an explicit dependency on another MIB but conceptually parallels IEEE 802.11 station statistics concepts. It is typically deployed on Colubris/HP APs configured in wireless client/workgroup-bridge mode connecting back to an upstream wireless network. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the COLUBRIS-WIRELESS-CLIENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in COLUBRIS-WIRELESS-CLIENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Colubris/HP wireless access point (client/workgroup-bridge mode)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll colubrisWirelessClientSignalLevel and colubrisWirelessClientSNR to assess RF link quality to the upstream AP identified by colubrisWirelessClientBSSID and colubrisWirelessClientSSID. A low colubrisWirelessClientTransmitRate/ReceiveRate combined with a poor SNR reading would explain throughput problems on the backhaul link. Repeated resets of colubrisWirelessClientConnectTime to a small value, together with colubrisWirelessClientAuthorizedState toggling, would indicate the client keeps disassociating and re-authenticating rather than maintaining a stable connection.
What Can Be Monitored
- signal level, noise level, SNR
- transmit/receive rate
- connection time (link stability)
- authorization state
- encryption status
- associated SSID/BSSID

RFC description
Vendor-private MIB for Colubris Networks wireless client devices; tracks wireless client statistics including packet/octet counters and transmission rates across multiple data rates.
Start monitoring Colubris/HP wireless access point (client/bridge mode, legacy) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
