What Is CM-ALARM-MIB?

This MIB, from ADVA Optical Networking, defines alarm-monitoring objects for the FSP150CM/CC ("F3") family of optical transport/carrier Ethernet network elements. It exposes fault-management data: a system alarm table listing active alarms with notification code, alarm type, service-affecting status, time raised, and physical/logical location, plus a facility for triggering test alarms. Its central purpose is fault and status monitoring, letting an NMS see current equipment or facility alarms, whether each alarm is service-affecting, its direction (e.g., near-end/far-end), and when it was raised, which is critical for tracking hardware faults such as line/port failures on the optical transport gear. As an alarm/notification-oriented MIB it is generally deployed together with ADVA's broader FSP150 equipment and interface MIBs that expose the underlying hardware inventory and status those alarms refer to. It is used in carrier/service-provider optical networks running ADVA FSP150CM/CC network elements. Engineers can download the CM-ALARM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

Polling cmSysAlmTable returns each active cmSysAlmEntry with cmSysAlmNotifCode and cmSysAlmType identifying the fault condition, cmSysAlmSrvEff flagging whether the alarm is service-affecting, and cmSysAlmLocation/cmSysAlmDirection pinpointing which port or direction raised it. cmAlmLastChange lets a poller detect when the alarm table has changed since the last check without re-walking the whole table. The cmAlmTestAlarmEntity/cmAlmTestAlarmAction objects allow an operator to inject a test alarm to verify the NMS's alarm-reception path end-to-end.
