Description: Manages Cisco WAN resource partition allocation across controllers on MGX switching platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-WAN-RSRC-PART-MIB?

CISCO-WAN-RSRC-PART-MIB is a Cisco-specific MIB (under ciscoMgmt) that manages resource partitioning of ATM/VSI (Virtual Switch Interface) connection resources on Cisco WAN switching platforms such as the MGX series, letting multiple controllers (e.g., PNNI, MPLS) share bandwidth, VPI/VCI ranges, and connection entries on the same physical or virtual ATM interface. Its core table, cwRsrcPartConfTable, is indexed by ifIndex and cwRsrcPartID and exposes cwRsrcPartController (which controller owns the partition), guaranteed and maximum percentage bandwidth per direction (cwRsrcPartEgrGuarPctBwConf, cwRsrcPartEgrMaxPctBwConf, cwRsrcPartIngGuarPctBwConf, cwRsrcPartIngMaxPctBwConf), current bandwidth usage/availability (cwRsrcPartEgrPctBwUsed, cwRsrcPartIngPctBwAvail), VPI/VCI range bounds, and connection-count guarantees/usage (cwRsrcPartGuarCon, cwRsrcPartMaxCon, cwRsrcPartUsedCon, cwRsrcPartAvailCon). This data is useful for monitoring because it shows whether each controller's carved-out share of switch resources is being consumed as expected or is close to exhaustion, which affects new connection admission on that partition. It depends on ifIndex from IF-MIB and RowStatus/TruthValue from SNMPv2-TC, and is deployed on Cisco MGX/BPX WAN switching platforms supporting VSI-controlled ATM connections; administrators can download the CISCO-WAN-RSRC-PART-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-WAN-RSRC-PART-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MGX/BPX WAN switching platforms (VSI-controlled ATM switches)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls cwRsrcPartConfTable for a given ifIndex/cwRsrcPartID to compare cwRsrcPartUsedCon against cwRsrcPartMaxCon and cwRsrcPartIngPctBwAvail against zero; a partition nearing its cwRsrcPartMaxCon connection limit while cwRsrcPartIngPctBwAvail is also close to exhausted would indicate that controller's connection admission is about to start failing on that interface.

What Can Be Monitored

  • resource partition controller ownership per interface
  • guaranteed/maximum bandwidth percentage per direction
  • current bandwidth usage and availability
  • VPI/VCI range allocation
  • guaranteed/maximum/used/available connection counts
  • partition row status
