Description: Manages Cisco HDLC-encapsulated voice dial control for voice over serial WAN links.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-VOICE-HDLC-DIAL-CONTROL-MIB?

CISCO-VOICE-HDLC-DIAL-CONTROL-MIB extends the IETF Dial Control MIB (RFC 2128) to manage HDLC-encapsulated voice dial-control call information over serial/data network links on Cisco voice-over-WAN gateway equipment. It primarily exposes a call history table recording individual HDLC voice call attempts, including connection identifiers, the lower-layer interface name used, and the session target (dialed destination) for each call. This makes it useful for monitoring the software-level call-handling status of a voice gateway: administrators can review recent call history entries to spot failed or unusually short call attempts, identify which lower interface is carrying voice-over-HDLC traffic, and correlate session targets with call outcomes. As explicitly stated in its description, it enhances the IETF Dial Control MIB (RFC 2128), reusing its common dial-control conventions. It is deployed on Cisco routers/gateways carrying voice traffic over HDLC-encapsulated serial WAN links, such as leased-line voice trunking. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-VOICE-HDLC-DIAL-CONTROL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-VOICE-HDLC-DIAL-CONTROL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco voice-over-WAN router/gateway
  • vendor-neutral IETF Dial Control MIB extension applied to Cisco HDLC voice-serial equipment

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would query cvHdlcCallHistoryTable/cvHdlcCallHistoryEntry, keyed by cvHdlcCallHistoryConnectionId, to review recent calls, checking cvHdlcCallHistoryLowerIfName to see which serial interface carried the call and cvHdlcCallHistorySessionTarget to confirm the dialed destination. A cluster of call history entries sharing the same lower interface but with no successful completions would point to a problem on that specific HDLC link rather than the voice application itself. The cvhdlcdcMIBObjects/cvHdlcCallHistory group is the primary source polled for this call-level diagnostic data.

What Can Be Monitored

  • HDLC voice call history entries
  • connection identifiers
  • lower-layer interface used per call
  • dialed session target
