What is aal2ProfileVBDCodec?
This read-write value configures which codec is used for Voice Band Data (VBD), such as fax or modem tones, when the call upspeeds from compressed voice to a higher-fidelity mode, with the default depending on the card's T1/E1 type and ITU profile. An admin cares because fax and modem traffic often can't tolerate the same compression as voice, so this setting ensures the gateway switches to a codec, or clear channel, capable of carrying that data reliably. For example, if fax transmissions over a VoATM trunk are failing or garbled, the admin might check this VBD codec setting to ensure it's configured for a codec like G.711 or clear channel rather than a lossy compressed codec unsuitable for fax tones.
