Description: GBOS-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is GBOS-MIB?

GBOS-MIB is an unofficial, community-maintained MIB (explicitly noted as 'for Observium use only') for GTA's GB-OS operating system, which runs on GTA (Global Technology Associates) firewall/security appliances. It exposes system identity and inventory data (serial number, hostname, product number/description, firmware version), high-availability configuration state, and live connection-count statistics. Its primary monitoring value is in software and system status: administrators can track the device's firmware/version details and whether software updates are available (gbSysUpdatesAvail), its current high-availability mode (gbHighAvailabilityMode), and real-time load indicators such as current, peak, and inbound firewall connection counts (gbStatsCurConns, gbStatsPeakConns, gbStatsCurInConns), which together give a picture of the appliance's operational health and load. There is no indication of dependency on other standard MIBs beyond generic SNMPv2-SMI conventions used to define the enterprise OID tree (gbObjects, gbSystem, gbSystemInfo). It is typically deployed on GTA GB-OS firewall/VPN appliances in small-to-midsize enterprise networks, monitored via tools like Observium for connection load, version tracking, and HA status. Engineers can download the GBOS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GBOS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • GTA (Global Technology Associates) GB-OS firewall/VPN appliance

Monitoring Examples

An administrator could poll gbStatsCurConns and gbStatsPeakConns to track the firewall's current versus historical peak connection load, and gbStatsCurInConns specifically for inbound connection volume, spotting a sudden spike that could indicate a DDoS attempt or unusually heavy traffic. Polling gbSysVersionNumber, gbSysVersionDescr, and gbSysUpdatesAvail together reveals the running firmware version and whether a pending update is available, useful for patch-compliance tracking. gbHighAvailabilityMode would be checked to confirm the unit's HA role/state in a failover pair, and gbSysSerial/gbSysHostname/gbSysProductDescr provide asset-inventory identification during a fleet-wide audit.
