Description: Manages high-availability redundancy state and failover on Cisco appliance platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-APPLIANCE-REDUNDANCY-MIB?

CISCO-APPLIANCE-REDUNDANCY-MIB is a Cisco proprietary MIB that manages high-availability redundancy between an active and standby appliance pair, covering configuration of synchronization timing and the operational redundancy state. Its data spans configuration (sync interval, check interval, virtual/local/peer addresses) and status/fault categories (current redundancy state and notification enablement), making it a software-status MIB centered on failover readiness rather than physical hardware. From a monitoring perspective it is used to confirm the standby appliance is properly synchronized with the active one and to detect a state transition (failover) as soon as it occurs, which is critical since a stale standby means data loss risk on failover. It does not appear to depend heavily on other MIBs, being a self-contained redundancy-management module built around Cisco's appliance HA architecture. It is typically deployed on paired Cisco appliances (such as content or service appliances) configured in an active/standby high-availability cluster, with a CISCO-APPLIANCE-REDUNDANCY-MIB download typically bundled with the appliance's management software for import into standard SNMP tools.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-APPLIANCE-REDUNDANCY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco appliance (active/standby high-availability pair)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls carRedundancyState to confirm the pair is in a healthy active/standby state and checks carRedundancySyncInterval against carRedundancyCheckInterval to ensure synchronization is occurring frequently enough for the deployment's tolerance for data loss. Walking carHAAddressTable / carHAAddressEntry reveals the configured carVirtualAddress, carMyAddress, and carPeerAddressType/carPeerAddress bindings, letting an admin verify the HA pair is using the expected virtual IP for client-facing traffic. An unexpected change in carRedundancyState combined with carNotificationEnabled would trigger a trap indicating an unplanned failover event requiring investigation.
