OID (symbolic): CISCO-APPLIANCE-REDUNDANCY-MIB::carVirtualAddress

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.458.1.1.5.1.3

Type: InetAddress

Access: read-only

Description: The virtual IP address configured for this interface. The type of this mib variable is defined in carVirtualAddressType. This address binds to the active appliance at all times. All the management requests should be made to this address.

What is carVirtualAddress?

This reports the floating virtual IP address that always binds to whichever appliance in the HA pair is currently active, distinct from each appliance's own fixed address (carMyAddress/carPeerAddress) which stays constant regardless of role. This is specifically the address an admin should point all management traffic and client connections at, since it automatically follows the active role during a failover without requiring any reconfiguration on the client side. For example, an admin managing this device via a browser or SNMP tool should always target this virtual address rather than either appliance's individual address, so that a failover transparently redirects their session to whichever node just became active.
