Category: Nokia Optical Transport

Description: Manages Nokia Tropic optical amplifier configuration, gain settings, and operational status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TROPIC-AMPLIFIER-MIB?

TROPIC-AMPLIFIER-MIB is part of Nokia's (formerly Alcatel-Lucent) Tropic DWDM optical transport management MIB suite, covering optical amplifier equipment used to boost signal power in a DWDM system. It defines configuration objects for amplifier gain settings along with operational status data for the amplifier. Its monitoring purpose is hardware status: tracking whether an optical amplifier is operating within its target gain range and flagging faults or degraded output that could impact signal quality across all wavelengths riding on that fiber. It is one of several related Tropic MIBs (alongside TROPIC-OCH-MIB, TROPIC-OTH-MIB, and TROPIC-OSPF-MIB) that together model a Nokia DWDM network element, sharing common conventions across the suite. It is deployed on Nokia DWDM optical transport network elements used in service-provider optical backbone networks. Engineers can download the TROPIC-AMPLIFIER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TROPIC-AMPLIFIER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia (Alcatel-Lucent) Tropic DWDM optical transport network element

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were provided for this module. Based on its description as an amplifier types MIB, an admin would be expected to poll gain-setting and operational-status objects to confirm the optical amplifier is holding its configured gain and to detect a fault condition or output-power deviation that could degrade the DWDM channels it is amplifying.

What Can Be Monitored

  • amplifier gain setting
  • amplifier operational status
  • amplifier fault condition
