Description: Defines Nokia Tropic physical media SNMP notifications for optical transport hardware events.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TROPIC-PHMNOTIFICATION-MIB?

TROPIC-PHMNOTIFICATION-MIB is a private vendor MIB from Nokia for its Tropic optical transport product line, defining SNMP notifications for PHM (Physical Media) -- the physical-layer transport facilities such as fiber links and optical hardware -- within the Tropic network element. It exposes exclusively fault/trap-category data: notifications signaling physical-media alarm conditions such as loss of signal, degraded optical power, or other physical-layer faults. In monitoring terms this module is entirely about hardware fault notification at the physical media layer, providing the alarm/trap mechanism an NMS relies on to be alerted immediately to fiber or optical hardware problems rather than having to poll continuously. It works alongside TROPIC-OPTICALCARD-MIB and TROPIC-CARD-MIB, which define the underlying hardware objects whose conditions trigger these notifications. It is deployed in Nokia Tropic WDM optical transport network elements as part of the alarm/notification pipeline for physical-layer faults. Engineers can download the TROPIC-PHMNOTIFICATION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TROPIC-PHMNOTIFICATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia Tropic optical transport network element

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were provided for this module, so a concrete object-level scenario cannot be given; consistent with its stated purpose, an NMS would subscribe to this module's traps to be alerted immediately upon physical-media faults such as loss of optical signal on a fiber link, prompting investigation of the associated optical card or shelf hardware.

What Can Be Monitored

  • physical media (fiber/optical) alarm notifications
  • loss-of-signal and signal-degrade fault events
