What Is RAD-GEN-MIB?
RAD-GEN-MIB is a foundational stub module published by RAD Data Communications, a vendor of telecom access and transmission equipment. It does not itself expose monitoring data; instead it establishes the private enterprise OID subtree ('rad') and common textual conventions that all other RAD-specific MIBs build upon. As a base registration module it has no direct role in reporting hardware or software status, but every RAD device MIB that layers on top of it (interface status, alarms, performance counters, etc.) inherits its object identifier hierarchy from the RAD-GEN-MIB OID root defined here. It is foundational rather than dependent, since it is the root that other RAD MIBs import from. It is typically loaded first by an NMS or MIB compiler before any other RAD Data Communications MIB modules so that OID references resolve correctly.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RAD-GEN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- enterprise OID registration only
- no direct data objects
- supports resolution of other RAD MIBs
Supported Devices
- RAD Data Communications equipment, entire product line (shared OID root stub)
Monitoring Examples
The module defines the single top-level object 'rad', the enterprise OID arc under which all subsequent RAD product MIBs register their own object groups and tables. An administrator would never poll 'rad' directly for data; rather, a MIB browser uses it purely to resolve and namespace OIDs for other RAD MIBs (e.g. device-specific alarm or interface MIBs) loaded alongside it. Its presence or absence typically only matters when a MIB compiler reports unresolved imports for other RAD modules.
