Description: TIMETRA-PCEP-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TIMETRA-PCEP-MIB?

TIMETRA-PCEP-MIB is a Nokia proprietary SNMP module for SR OS that manages and monitors the Path Computation Element communication Protocol (PCEP), used by routers acting as PCE clients (PCC) to request MPLS-TE/segment-routing path computations from an external Path Computation Element. It exposes PCEP entity configuration such as entity type (PCC/PCE), administrative state, local address, and session-timer parameters (keepalive interval, dead timer). Its main monitoring value is verifying that the PCEP session/entity is administratively and operationally healthy, since a failed or flapping PCEP session prevents dynamic path computation and can stall traffic-engineered LSP setup. It works in conjunction with TIMETRA MPLS/RSVP-TE and traffic-engineering MIBs, as PCEP-computed paths feed those signaling protocols. It is deployed on Nokia SROS routers participating in SDN-controlled or PCE-assisted traffic-engineered networks. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the TIMETRA-PCEP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-PCEP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia SROS routers (7750 SR, 7450 ESS) acting as PCEP client/server
  • SDN/PCE-controlled traffic-engineered network nodes

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls tmnxPcepEntityTable/tmnxPcepEntityEntry to check tmnxPcepEntityAdminState and confirm the local PCEP entity (identified by tmnxPcepEntityLocalAddr) is enabled and using the expected tmnxPcepEntityType (PCC or PCE). The tmnxPcepEntityKeepAliveInterval and tmnxPcepEntityDeadTimer values are compared against the peer's configuration to diagnose session flaps caused by timer mismatches. A recent tmnxPcepEntityLastChanged timestamp combined with reported PCEP session drops would point to a configuration change as the likely cause.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PCEP entity type (PCC/PCE) and admin state
  • local PCEP address configuration
  • keepalive interval and dead-timer settings
  • PCEP entity last-changed timestamp

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using tmnxPcepPeerNumPCRptSent OID:

Select a Nokia SROS routers (7750 SR, 7450 ESS) acting as PCEP client/server (PCEP session admin/keepalive status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type tmnxPcepPeerNumPCRptSent into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The value of tmnxPcepPeerNumPCRptSent indicates the number of PCRpt messages sent to this peer. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
