What Is TIMETRA-LDP-MIB?

TIMETRA-LDP-MIB is a proprietary Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia SROS MIB managing LDP (Label Distribution Protocol), the MPLS control-plane protocol used to distribute label bindings between routers. It exposes per-virtual-router LDP configuration and state, including administrative and operational state, the router's LSR identifier, protocol version, and session timer parameters like keepalive and hello factors/timeouts. It is used to monitor the software/protocol status of MPLS label distribution -- specifically whether LDP is operationally up or down relative to its administrative setting, and whether session timers are configured appropriately to avoid premature session drops, which is central to MPLS network stability. It depends on Alcatel-Lucent's TIMETRA-TC-MIB conventions and conceptually parallels the IETF MPLS-LDP-STD-MIB. It is deployed on Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR, 7450 ESS, and related SROS-based routers in MPLS service-provider networks, where TIMETRA-LDP-MIB SNMP monitoring tracks LDP session state and stability.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-LDP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

vRtrLdpGeneralTable and vRtrLdpGeneralEntry expose vRtrLdpGenAdminState alongside vRtrLdpGenOperState per virtual router, so an operator polling for a mismatch — admin state up but oper state down — can immediately spot an LDP protocol failure. vRtrLdpGenKeepAliveTimeout and vRtrLdpGenHelloTimeout show the configured session timers, which an engineer would check when sessions are flapping, and vRtrLdpGenLdpLsrId identifies the router's LSR ID for correlating with peer-side session logs alongside the vRtrLdpGenLastChange timestamp.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using vRtrLdpStatsOperDownEvents OID:

Select a Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR, 7450 ESS, SROS-based MPLS router (LDP session/timer status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type vRtrLdpStatsOperDownEvents into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The value of vRtrLdpStatsOperDownEvents specifies the number of times the LDP instance has gone operationally down since the instance was created. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
