Description: MIB for managing the U3 interface that steers client traffic between 3GPP cellular networks and WLAN on Cisco wireless LAN controllers

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-LWAPP-U3INTERFACE-MIB?

CISCO-LWAPP-U3INTERFACE-MIB is a Cisco proprietary MIB defining the U3 interface between a Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) and a Cellular WLAN Controller (CWC), used to support Real-Time Traffic Steering (RTTS) of clients between 3GPP cellular networks and Wi-Fi. It exposes configuration and performance data for WLANs and individual clients involved in traffic-steering decisions, including throughput measurements, thresholds, and timers. Rather than general hardware health, its monitoring value is centered on software-level performance status: per-client throughput estimates, keep-alive counts, backoff timers, and reporting intervals that determine whether a client should be steered to or rejected from the WLAN. It is part of the broader CISCO-LWAPP MIB family and depends on the underlying LWAPP tunnel relationship between WLC and access points. Typical deployments are carrier Wi-Fi offload scenarios where mobile operators integrate WLANs with cellular cores for seamless traffic steering. Engineers can download the CISCO-LWAPP-U3INTERFACE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-LWAPP-U3INTERFACE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco wireless LAN controller (WLC)
  • Cellular WLAN Controller (CWC) integration point

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll cLU3InterfaceClientTable entries (cLU3InterfaceClientThroughput, cLU3InterfaceClientThreshold) to see whether a client's measured throughput has fallen below the configured cLU3InterfaceClientThreshold, which would trigger client rejection from the WLAN. Fields like cLU3InterfaceClientSkipCount, cLU3InterfaceClientKeepAliveCount, and cLU3InterfaceClientBackoffTimer reveal whether the steering algorithm is repeatedly skipping or backing off a problematic client. cLU3InterfaceReportingInterval and cLU3InterfaceClientEstimatePeriod control how frequently these throughput estimates are refreshed and reported to the CWC.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-client throughput estimate
  • client throughput threshold status
  • client skip/backoff counts
  • client keep-alive count
  • reporting interval configuration
  • WLAN U3 interface status
