Description: Extends standard ping MIB with Riverstone-specific source routing and result objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RIVERSTONE-PING-EXTENSIONS-MIB?

RIVERSTONE-PING-EXTENSIONS-MIB is a Riverstone Networks enterprise MIB that extends the standard IETF PING-MIB (RFC 2925) with Riverstone-specific ping capabilities, including ATM and Ethernet OAM-based connectivity tests. It exposes control tables for configuring ping-like probes over ATM (rsPingAtmCtlTable, with port/VPI/VCI/flow-type parameters) and Ethernet OAM (rsPingEtherOamCtlTable, with target address, VLAN ID, priority), alongside conformance and object-group definitions. Its monitoring value is connectivity/fault diagnostics rather than classic hardware sensors: administrators use it to actively test reachability across ATM PVCs or Ethernet OAM links and detect connectivity failures or misconfiguration on those specific transport types. It explicitly extends the standard pingMIB from RFC 2925, making it dependent on that IETF standard for its base structure. It is deployed on Riverstone Networks switches/routers that support ATM and Ethernet OAM connectivity testing, typically in carrier or enterprise WAN environments. Engineers can download the RIVERSTONE-PING-EXTENSIONS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RIVERSTONE-PING-EXTENSIONS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Riverstone Networks switch/router

Monitoring Examples

An administrator configuring an ATM connectivity test would populate rsPingAtmCtlTable with rsPingAtmCtlPort, rsPingAtmCtlVpi, and rsPingAtmCtlVci to target a specific virtual circuit, then check the results to confirm the PVC is passing traffic. Populating rsPingEtherOamCtlTable with rsPingEtherOamCtlTargetAddress and rsPingEtherOamCtlVlanId lets the admin verify Ethernet OAM connectivity to a remote device on a specific VLAN, revealing a link or OAM misconfiguration if the probe fails.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATM PVC ping test results (VPI/VCI)
  • Ethernet OAM connectivity test results
  • target address/VLAN reachability
  • ping flow type/priority configuration
