Organization: Riverstone Networks, Inc
Last Updated: 2000-04-15
Category: Vendor SMI and Registration
Description: Defines the Riverstone Networks enterprise OID structure and SMI registration hierarchy.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RIVERSTONE-SMI-MIB?
RIVERSTONE-SMI-MIB is the Structure of Management Information module for Riverstone Networks (a legacy enterprise router/switch vendor later absorbed into Lucent/Alcatel-Lucent), defining the company's private enterprise OID registration hierarchy. It contains no manageable objects itself, serving only to declare the top-level OID subtree under which Riverstone's functional product MIBs (routing, switching, chassis) register. As a pure SMI/root module it exposes no hardware or software status data (no uptime, temperature, CPU/memory, or fan/power objects) on its own. It is a required structural dependency for every other Riverstone-branded MIB module. Anyone who needs to download RIVERSTONE-SMI-MIB for a legacy installation should pair it with the specific Riverstone routing, switching, or chassis MIB modules it was designed to support. It would historically have been deployed as a prerequisite MIB wherever legacy Riverstone Networks routers/switches were managed via SNMP.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RIVERSTONE-SMI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- legacy Riverstone Networks routers and switches
Monitoring Examples
RIVERSTONE-SMI-MIB has no sample objects because it is a pure SMI registration module; it defines only the enterprise OID arc that Riverstone's functional MIBs attach their management objects to. There is no independent monitoring scenario for this module — it exists solely so that OIDs in dependent Riverstone product MIBs resolve during compilation and polling.
