What Is RADLAN-Tuning?

RADLAN-Tuning is a RADLAN/Marvell proprietary MIB (used widely in white-label switches built on RDK/RADLAN software stacks and Marvell switching ASICs) for adjusting low-level performance tuning parameters. It covers forwarding and scheduling priorities (rsHighPriority, rsLowPriority), debug verbosity levels, diagnostic result reporting, and capacity tuning limits such as maximum bridge forwarding table entries. Its monitoring value centers on software/system status: diagnostics results (rsDiagnosticsCode, rsDiagnosticsText) reveal internal self-test or runtime error conditions, while tuning limits and event messages reflect how the switch's internal tables and priorities are currently configured. It is a private enterprise MIB layered on the RADLAN base MIB tree shared across many OEM switch vendors using the same chipset/software base. It is deployed in low-cost managed Ethernet switches from various OEMs built on Marvell silicon and RADLAN's embedded switch software, where the RADLAN-Tuning MIB gives administrators SNMP visibility into these low-level tuning parameters.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-Tuning. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll rsDiagnosticsTable entries such as rsDiagnosticsCode and rsDiagnosticsText to check for reported internal diagnostic errors, and review eventMessageTable for logged system events indicating abnormal conditions. Checking rsMaxBridgeForwardingEntriesTuning against actual MAC table usage helps confirm the switch isn't nearing its configured forwarding table capacity, a common cause of flooding in large L2 networks.
