Description: Manages Quantum Bridge Ethernet interface configuration, MAC address tables, and port statistics on broadband access nodes.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is QB-ETHERNET-MIB?
QB-ETHERNET-MIB is a Quantum Bridge Corporation proprietary MIB that extends the standards-track EtherLike-MIB with vendor-specific configuration objects for Ethernet-like interfaces on Quantum Bridge broadband access equipment. Its single table, qbDot3ConfigTable, AUGMENTS the standard dot3StatsEntry and adds objects for configured speed and duplex mode (both since deprecated in favor of auto-negotiation), ATM AAL5 encapsulation type (qbDot3ConfigEncapsType, referencing RFC 1483), a router MAC address for IOT (interconnect) ports, loopback control (qbDot3ConfigLoopback, supporting line and payload loopback modes), and administrative/operational MAU type and negotiation-enable objects modeled on RFC 2668's ifMauType conventions. This makes it useful for verifying and remotely testing Ethernet port behavior on Quantum Bridge access nodes, particularly for placing a suspect port into loopback for diagnostics or confirming the encapsulation type used to bridge Ethernet traffic over an ATM AAL5 backhaul. It depends on EtherLike-MIB (for the base dot3StatsEntry it augments), BRIDGE-MIB (for MacAddress), and the vendor's own QB-DWS-MIB and QUANTUMBRIDGE-REG modules for shared types and OID registration. It is deployed on Quantum Bridge broadband access nodes; administrators can download the QB-ETHERNET-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for that purpose.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in QB-ETHERNET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Quantum Bridge Corporation broadband access nodes
Monitoring Examples
An operator sets qbDot3ConfigLoopback to payloadLoop on a suspect port to isolate a physical-layer fault, then polls qbDot3ConfigEnetNegMode and qbDot3ConfigEnetType to confirm auto-negotiation state and MAU type; a port stuck in a loopback state when it should be forwarding traffic would explain a reported connectivity outage on that interface.
What Can Be Monitored
- configured speed and duplex mode
- ATM AAL5 encapsulation type
- loopback mode setting
- MAU type (administrative and operational)
- auto-negotiation enable/disable state
- router MAC address for IOT ports
