Description: Extends the MPLS LDP MIB for Label Distribution Protocol implementations that use Frame Relay as the Layer 2 medium.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring MPLS-LDP-FRAME-RELAY-STD-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is MPLS-LDP-FRAME-RELAY-STD-MIB?

MPLS-LDP-FRAME-RELAY-STD-MIB is the standardized (RFC 3815) vendor-neutral IETF MIB for configuring and monitoring MPLS Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) entities that use Frame Relay as the Layer 2 medium, superseding the earlier draft version. It exposes tables describing LDP entity Frame Relay parameters, including per-interface merge capability, VC directionality, storage type, and row status, plus a label-range (LR) subtable defining minimum DLCI values for label allocation. Its monitoring value is protocol configuration and operational-state visibility for LDP-over-Frame-Relay sessions, letting operators confirm label ranges and merge behavior are correctly provisioned per interface rather than reporting device hardware health. It explicitly builds on and extends the base MPLS-LDP-MIB (RFC 3815 family) and depends on the broader MPLS label-switching architecture. It is deployed on MPLS provider routers that still carry legacy Frame Relay access circuits requiring LDP label distribution. Engineers can download the MPLS-LDP-FRAME-RELAY-STD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MPLS-LDP-FRAME-RELAY-STD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • MPLS router with Frame Relay Layer 2 interfaces

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll mplsLdpEntityFrameRelayTable/mplsLdpEntityFrameRelayEntry to check mplsLdpEntityFrameRelayIfIndexOrZero and mplsLdpEntityFrameRelayMergeCap for a given LDP entity, confirming whether label merging is enabled on that Frame Relay interface. The companion mplsLdpEntityFrameRelayLRTable/mplsLdpEntityFrameRelayLREntry with mplsLdpEntityFrameRelayLRMinDlci lets the operator verify the configured DLCI label range matches the provisioned Frame Relay PVCs, revealing misconfiguration if label distribution fails on that circuit.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LDP entity Frame Relay merge capability
  • VC directionality
  • DLCI label range (minimum DLCI)
  • row status of Frame Relay LDP entries
  • storage type of configuration entries
